The successful of 2022 Sino-Dutch Workshop on Smart City

 

On November 10th, 2022, the Sino-Dutch Workshop on Smart City was successfully held at Shangri-La Shougang Park,Beijing. This forum supported by  Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, is jointly organized by Beijing University of Technology, the Vrije Universiteit  Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and the Beijing Information and Telecommunication Association. The forum invites senior experts and professors from Academician of the European Academy of Sciences, Foreign Fellow of the Engineering Academy of Japan(EAJ), Beijing University of Technology, Vrijje University Amsterdam, Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other senior experts and professors who are working in related fields. The theme of "Computation and Storage Collaboration, Data and Reality Symbiosis - Constructing urban metaverse" Symposium. Sino-Dutch smart city experts discuss smart transportation, smart spirit, hybrid intelligence systems, urban metaverse, which further promoted the cooperation between Sino-Dutch smart city in the academic, scientific and industrial fields.

 

The forum began with the speech by Professor Yang Zhen, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Information Technology of Beijing University of Technology, Qingli He, the vice chairman of Beijing Information and Telecommunication Association and former deputy chief engineer of China Academy of Information and Telecommunication Technologyand and Professor Frank van Harmelen, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences. Professor Zhen Yang firstly expressed his welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the guests, and said the forum provided an new opportunity for cooperation between the Dutch and Chinese cities in the area of smart cities. Qingli He expressed his hope that the forum would further promote cooperation and exchange in the field of communication and information at home and abroad. Professor Frank van Harmelen expressed that Sino-Dutch Workshop on Smart City made him happy, a little sad because of the epidemic we can't be there in person, and hopes that this forum would serve as an opportunity to further promote wider and longer-term cooperation and exchanges between China and the Netherlands.

Professor Frank van Harmelen, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences, presented the vision of Hybrid Intelligence and explained how hybrid intelligent systems can play a role in building smart cities.

Professor Jiancheng Weng, Faculty of Architecture, Civil And Transportation of Beijing University of Technology, introduced the urban traffic system, traffic governance needs and technology development trends under the smart city framework, from the three levels of intelligent transportation space, intelligent transportation governance, and integrated transportation operation and travel services, analyzed the typical solutions of new intelligent transportation driven by future scenarios.

Professor Zhisheng Huang,  a tenured senior researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, introduced the "Tree Hole Rescue Action" based on artificial intelligence and big data technology, as well as the application scenarios of metaverse technology in the field of mental health and psychological companionship.

Wei He, National Metaverse Working Group Review Experts, introduced the application cases in various aspects and the challenges and opportunities faced in the future around the era background of artificial intelligence and digital twins in the metaverse.

Beek Wouter, Co-Founder and President of Triply, Netherlands, described how knowledge graphs are used in real-world production systems to make government work smarter, and highlighted the benefits of the use of Knowledge Graphs for eGovernment and Smart Cities.

Ling Peng, Research Fellow, Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Jiahui Chen introduced the understanding of the urban metaverse, and the urban metaverse system and application demonstration in the scene of famous rural products based on digital twins by combining remote sensing and space-time knowledge graph.

Shaofu Lin, Professor of the Faculty of Information Technology of Beijing University of Technology, Senior Member of CCF, Executive Member of the Blockchain Special Committee, analyzed the evolution and development trend of smart city, put forward suggestions for the expansion of new smart city system architecture, and introduced research cases of new scenarios and new models.

In conclusion, Professor Zhisheng Huang and Professor Shaofu Lin , Chairmen of the Forum, concluded that the forum plays an important role in promoting research in the field of smart cities and promoting cooperation and exchange between China and the Netherlands. The conference came to a successful conclusion.

The success of this forum promoted Sino-Dutch technological cooperation in smart city and provided an opportunity for academia, industry and their governments in both cities to discuss cooperation plans and ideas.
